Quick Overview

Tune your earphones to have a different sound or replace old dirty filters.

Description

Etymotic carefully selects the ideal filter for each product but users enjoy modifying the sound of their earphones. To each of us, the sound we hear from any hearing device sounds different as we all have different frequencies curves to our natural hearing based on age, ear shape, previous hearing damage, etc.

What Etymotic is offering is the listener the ability to tune their Etymotic ER series earphones to their own tastes and hearing profile. By incorporating five different filters of varying resistance, you can go from a more detailed sound using the white filters all the way to a warmer and darker sound if you go with the orange filters.

Each person should consider the "customer tailored" approach to finding that perfect sound..

Lately, I have been enjoying my new ER4XR IEMs. I have other models but this is the only model I use because it's just far superior than anything I have or have tried in the past. It is just so addictive listening to music and everything else in between using the ER4XR. My ears cannot tell a lie!

My setup. Cowon iAudio 9+ (32GB) with many different genres but mostly listens to classics. JetEffect is set to BBE Headphone EQ setting. Classicals are mostly 44.1KHz sampled lossless as that's the maximum rate it support.

I use Comply deep insertion ear tips and was previously using the Brown filter. I thought it sounded good. I particularly enjoy the Bruch and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concertos, and jazz of course.

I then decided to go one notch up to white (gray is most bright). Wow, what a difference it made. It sounds as if my set up completely changed.

Now I want to try the Gray to see if we can squeeze out a bit more realism so I ordered two sets, Whites and Grays.

Etymotic ear IEM's are like a custom tailored suit. You have to measure and remeasure often to get that perfect fit. I am not kidding. They give you the best in class IEM, now you need to put some of that elbow grease to make it your own.

If you have any doubts whether these work, they surely do, and I highly recommend it if you love classicals and jazz.

Great filters

Glad these filters exist. They work just as advertised. The tool supplied easily removes the filters and the wax inside it. The only issue I have is , for the price, there sholud be about 20 of these filters, not 6.

A problem that was resolved

I ordered the filters. They are the wrong size form my Etymotic-made Altec Lansing IM616 earphones. I contacted etymotic and they kindly refunded my entire purchase. That’s why the transaction was great.

Accomplished what I needed

I use the Music Pro Elite devices when practicing violin, when the sound pressure can exceed 90 dB(A) at the left ear when playing forte (as measured with the NIOSH iPhone app). I bought new filters to start fresh with clean filters. I found the sound quality to be excellent, often using just one device in my left ear. My primary goal is attenuation of loud peaks, without changing the quality of sound noticeably otherwise, and of course keeping debris out of the devices. I didn’t not experiment with other filters, but found the “green” ones very satisfactory.
