Description
Our ears don’t all hear sound the same way. Age, ear shape, and hearing damage can influence how we perceive music. That’s why Etymotic gives you the ability to customize your ER series earphones with a variety of dampers. Each damper/filter changes the acoustic resistance inside the earphone, subtly shaping the sound you hear. The result is a personal listening experience that’s tailored to you.
This set includes a 6 pack of your choice of damper type, each with its own sound signature.
• Green (1500 Ohms – Accurate) The most neutral option. Provides precise, accurate sound reproduction true to the original recording. Perfect for critical listeners and reference use.
• Orange (3300 Ohms – Warmer) Adds warmth by slightly softening higher frequencies, creating a smoother, more relaxed listening experience. Ideal for long sessions or those who prefer a gentler tonal balance.
• Red (2200 Ohms – Accuracy + Warmth) Balances the detail of the Green damper with the warmth of the Orange. Great for listeners who want clarity without straying into brightness.
• White (680 Ohms – Increased Detail) Emphasizes detail by slightly lifting higher frequencies. Brings out subtle textures and nuances, making instruments and vocals sound more immediate.
• Brown (1000 Ohms – Detail & Accuracy) A balanced option that highlights both precision and clarity. It delivers accurate sound reproduction while adding just enough detail to bring out subtle nuances, making it a versatile choice for listeners who want the best of both worlds.
• Gray (320 Ohms – Bright) Accentuates higher frequencies for a brighter, more forward sound. Great for listeners who enjoy extra sparkle in vocals and instruments or want added energy in their music.
Why should you change your dampers?
Your earphones don’t have to sound the same forever. By swapping dampers, you can tailor your ER series earphones to match your mood, music, or hearing changes. Whether you want precise accuracy, more warmth, or added detail, these filters give you the flexibility to control your sound.
When to replace: If the volume begins to drop noticeably, or if filters become clogged with earwax or debris, it’s time to switch them out.
What’s Included:
•6 dampers in one color choice

Smooth Sound
I bought these filters for my Etymotic Research HF5’s and they fit correctly. I found that the HF5’s were a little bright for my taste and these filters smoothed out the high end. Very pleased with my purchase.

A great way to get to know your preferred tuning
I was not sure what to expect when I ordered these, but I was curious.
When they arrived I was not one bit unhappy with my 4xr’s.
I was eager to get started but was also worried about how hard it might be to change out the delicate folders.
I shiouldn’t have been even with hands that require XL Men’s gloves it was not hard at all.
I tried each and found for me the Accurate/Warm tuning the most fun.
Maybe a shade less accurate then default, but for me my sweet spot.
If my taste ever changes, I know have options…
I think that’s pretty genius.
I am still amazed at the sound quality for the relatively low price.
Keep up the good work !

Accomplished what I needed
I use the Music Pro Elite devices when practicing violin, when the sound pressure can exceed 90 dB(A) at the left ear when playing forte (as measured with the NIOSH iPhone app). I bought new filters to start fresh with clean filters. I found the sound quality to be excellent, often using just one device in my left ear. My primary goal is attenuation of loud peaks, without changing the quality of sound noticeably otherwise, and of course keeping debris out of the devices. I didn’t not experiment with other filters, but found the “green” ones very satisfactory.

A problem that was resolved
I ordered the filters. They are the wrong size form my Etymotic-made Altec Lansing IM616 earphones. I contacted etymotic and they kindly refunded my entire purchase. That’s why the transaction was great.

Great filters
Glad these filters exist. They work just as advertised. The tool supplied easily removes the filters and the wax inside it. The only issue I have is , for the price, there sholud be about 20 of these filters, not 6.

Each person should consider the “customer tailored” approach to finding that perfect sound..
Lately, I have been enjoying my new ER4XR IEMs. I have other models but this is the only model I use because it’s just far superior than anything I have or have tried in the past. It is just so addictive listening to music and everything else in between using the ER4XR. My ears cannot tell a lie!
My setup. Cowon iAudio 9+ (32GB) with many different genres but mostly listens to classics. JetEffect is set to BBE Headphone EQ setting. Classicals are mostly 44.1KHz sampled lossless as that’s the maximum rate it support.
I use Comply deep insertion ear tips and was previously using the Brown filter. I thought it sounded good. I particularly enjoy the Bruch and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concertos, and jazz of course.
I then decided to go one notch up to white (gray is most bright). Wow, what a difference it made. It sounds as if my set up completely changed.
Now I want to try the Gray to see if we can squeeze out a bit more realism so I ordered two sets, Whites and Grays.
Etymotic ear IEM’s are like a custom tailored suit. You have to measure and remeasure often to get that perfect fit. I am not kidding. They give you the best in class IEM, now you need to put some of that elbow grease to make it your own.
If you have any doubts whether these work, they surely do, and I highly recommend it if you love classicals and jazz.
