Why electronic hearing protection?
Passive hearing protection is cheaper, and involves no electronic circuit or batteries. However, it is not selective in its attenuation, lowering both low and high sounds. That results in conversation and other important yet not too-loud sounds being drowned and lost.
Electronic hearing protection uses a battery powered electronic circuit that samples your surrounding sound levels in real-time. Safe sound levels are passed through to your eardrums as-is, but the moment sound levels become too high – the hearing protection kicks in and attenuates the sound levels that reach your eardrums.
That means you can keep your hearing protection in at all times in the shooting range. When talking to your instructor – you’ll hear them clearly and naturally when no loud background noise is present. When you or someone nearby shoots, or continuous noise from vehicles or machinery becomes present – you are protected automatically!

How long is the charge?
Charges earplugs last up to 16 hours per charge and a fully charged case can charge earplugs up to 20 times.

Which mode is right for me?
Both modes will protect your hearing from dangerously loud noise levels and blasts, such as gun shots. The modes differ in safe noise levels, such as normal conversation. Hearing Protection mode will let the conversation in your ears, as if you are wearing no protection. The Hearing Enhancement mode will behave as a hearing aid and amplify the conversation.
The right mode for you depends on whether you need or want conversation enhancement or not.

These are amazing. The projection happens in the background so smoothly, and given their light-weight and perfect form factor, I can forget that i have them on. New Ear Protection
These hearing protectors are everything they’re claimed to be. They work extremely well at both high sound level protection, as well as amplifying low level sounds. Having a rechargeable solution rather than constantly replacing batteries was worth the extra price of this product.
If I could make only two suggestions to improve this product, they would be the following:
1) Having software or an application that provides the ability to fine tune the sound equalization of each earpiece, to better match the end-user’s natural hearing.
2) Adding Bluetooth capability. This would both allow connectivity to the units to perform the sound equalization function I mentioned above and they could also be used as “ear buds” to connect to your iPhone and allow answering a phone call or listening to music.
Other than those two feature additions, this is a solid product…. Thank you for making them!

These are great for me. I shoot a lot and have hearing loss. We thermal hunt pigs at night. Need to be able to communicate quietly when stalking then kill muzzle blast….and they work really good for that. Only knock so far is I get feedback (whistling) in high volume mode…..but that is not a big deal. Very comfortable and the rechargeable case is awesome. I have referred several people already.

Even Better than the Original Pros
I placed an order on the Etymotic website and received a ship notification the next day. Within 5 days of my order, I had them in hand. The case was 70% charged and the earbuds were each 100% charged. The case is small and sturdy and easy to slip into one of the pockets of a rifle bag. I did charge the case to full using the included cable. I’ve been a user of the Etymotic Gunsport Pro earbuds for years and other than having to keep batteries available have nothing but good things to say about them. I complete in mid range and long range F-Class events and the Etymotic’s help me to establish and maintain the cheek contact with the stock that promotes fundamental consistency. That is difficult to maintain with traditional over-the-ear muffs. One modification I made right away was to remove the OEM ear tips and install Comply Professional Noise Isolating Earphone Tips that are made to fit Etymotic, available on Amazon. The mediums fit my ear perfectly and promote competition-long comfort for me. I have used these for years on my Gunsport Pros. I didn’t try any of the supplied tips because I wanted an A-B comparison between my Pros and the new Elites.
Yesterday was match day and the first real opportunity I had to use them in my intended environment. I had the Pros with me just in case. At the conclusion of the safety briefing, I turned one on and put it in my ear followed by the other and my first thought was “Oh-oh, this isn’t going to work.” The sounds around me were so clear–to clear, I thought they weren’t doing anything at all. Bird chirping and flag waving sounded clear and normal. All of the sounds of actions around me was so clear it was amazing. Well, you get used to that quickly. All conversations were normal from that point on and amazingly crystal clear. At the firing line, the Elites did their job perfectly — even my own rifle was quieted more.
If you’re like me and looking for an alternative to bulky and hot over-the-ear noise protection and value the ability to hear and process all the ambient sounds in amazing clarity while blocking and filtering out the damaging ones, you will love and appreciate the Etymotic Gunsport Elites!

Awesome but want Blutooth
it would be nice to be able to answer the phone while wearing these as you can for many modern hearing protection devices. But even if they add it now, am I out the price I paid for these? Overall, would rather have them than not, just can’t give five stars, which I would really like to do. I would give 4.5 if that were possible.

Whitetail Protection
Thoroughly enjoyed the Etymotic GunSport Elites for rifle use this season. Historically I hunt with left plug in place (closest to muzzle blast) and may attempt to place right prior to shot. However, I added a 308 with muzzle brake to the rotation and needed both ears protected, but had to choose hearing the woods and hoping time to place plugs or being plugged all hunt. Excellent technology. Reduces blast effectively including the brake, yet also heard the bullet impact on deer, and no ringing. Also allows situational awareness regarding my noise making while hunting. Used with 6.5 without brake at the range (single shooter), excellent again allowing perception of the gong. Charged case once, have used on 5-6 hunts thus far without additional charge. As long as durable and reliable, earn 5 stars. (I use the FOAM plug only).

worthless warranty
[note: i wrote a review a while ago, but etymotic didn’t post it, understandably]
these were awesome until one slowly lost its amplification and then died; i had maybe fifty hours on them. i called etymotic and they said i was a couple months out of their chintzy one year warranty, but they would sell me a new complete set (two earplugs, charging case) for 20% off. it wasn’t worth $720 for me to have three working earplugs, two chargers, of course.
go with a company that will stand behind their spendy product–avoid etymotic–i’m going tetra next time.

Bill Joyner – DON’T PURCHASE
On Low setting these amplify the high frequencies much louder than normal but only amplify the low frequencies to barely audible. On High setting, they give feedback making them unwearable. (my hearing is good across all frequencies per audiologist hearing test)
I purchased these in early Sept for upland bird hunting. They were delivered mid-September. Tested them on 2 hunting trips in October with results as noted above. Worked with Support who said to return them and they would replace them. Returned on 10/31. It is now 1/11 and I still don’t have replacements and Etymotic refuses to provide a refund.

The perfect ears for hunters
I cannot say enough positive things about these amazing ears. I shoot at the range and hunt all sizes of wild game, and shoot just about ever caliber. These ears are comfortable, I often forget they are in my ears hours after shooting. You can still hear conversations while the shots are muffled. The charge lasts for months and I have worn these ears for 8+ hour hunts (on the whole time) and have had to charge them twice in one year!
These are very sleek and do not interfere with shouldering your weapon.

Didn’t last
I bought these a little over two years ago. One ear pice will no longer hold a charge. Unfortunately the warranty is only good for two years so my only option would be to spend another $500 to replace them. I was offered a 10% discount, bringing it down to $450.
I loved them while they worked, but not worth the price. I switched to another brand that was half the price and, while they aren’t as comfortable, they work just as good.

I have had tinnitus for several years now and have been extremely hard of hearing for close to 40 years. I went to the NRA convention in Nashville and I come across a booth that was selling the gun sport elite. I have tried hearing aids that cost $5000, and they simply would not work for me. The background noise, the wind, loud noises, was more than I could take with regular Hearing Aids. So I thought I had nothing to lose by trying these. These things are simply amazing! The clarity and the volume is perfect , and while I’m wearing them not only is my hearing perfect, but the ringing isn’t noticeable as well. I Highly recommend these to anyone suffering hearing loss.
I have bought 3 sets just so im never without them incase a set may need repair at some point.

These are incredible! Everything else in the garage! I’ve been in the military over 20 years and love to hunt and shoot recreationally. These are a complete game changer! Great design, however a little long in the tooth and desperately in need of an update to include:
1. USB C charging
2. Bluetooth chip. Doesn’t need to produce studio quality sound but having the option to listen to music like any of the dime a dozen wireless earbuds (or Axil) but actually have the hearing protection of Etymotic tips, would be an unbeatable combo for the sport.

I have a drawer full of ear protection and most of them are really bad. So far, these are the best I have used. I have hearing loss from shooting and really appreciate the amplification.
Turning them on and off while in the ear in not easy, But, I can live with it.
